Hi Guys

Has anyone in their meanderings though GE Dberg come across any views that have tents in them?

No. And I do use GE often.

But the odds of spotting one (especially since I assume the visuals are taken during the day) I would say is very low - well, unless you look at Mahai campsite or something like that.

Like Ghaz - I've not seen one on GE.

It looks like the GE imagery has a resolution of 15m for most parts of the Berg (this is Landsat imagery). Higher resolution SPOT imagery (2.5m) is heavily used by GE but typically not in remote areas like the Berg. Even with the higher resolution you would need a tent to sit squarely on the 2.5m x2.5m pixel - or else a group of tents close to each other. If this were to have happened, it may be hard to interepret what the objects are. I think they would appear as smudges of unusual colour.

If you switch on the 'historical imagery' info in the view menu you will see the time the imagery was taken - though it appears to be one of the US time zones.

I've actually been trying to see what a tent would look like on Google Earth. Even after looking at a few campsites I havent had much luck. Maybe the aerial photographs were taken during the week when people are generally not camping. But I think even if you do find a tent on GE, its unlikely to be distinguishable from a boulder at such poor resolution.

Well this isnt quite the Berg, but if you want to zoom in on mountainous terrain and find tents, click this link, then click on full screen and zoom away!

@Jon Yes i have seen that image before, pretty cool.

Ya no specific reason for my inquiry. I just wondered if anyone while planning a trip had come across any. The shepherds huts are easily visible, despite the fact that they blend in with the surrounding colour. So if there was a 3 man tent with a bright colour i recon you would be able to spot it, if you had the time to look for it that is.
