We know there are ponies roaming that area, could be them, otherwise these are smuggler scouts with their rides (although I could not discern any human shapes, not from that distance anyway).

From what I've seen its pretty normal for horses and ponies to be wondering around on the escarpment for grazing. I've also watched shepherds herd their horses up into remote valleys and then return and simply leave them there.

Didima khulus from Tryme hill - a bit hard fitting all the names in.

I prefer to refer to Rockeries Tower as Cathedral Peak and Cathedral Peak as Mponjwane - before I get a reply saying that Mponjwane is at Mnweni. I don't think a mapmakers error should cause us to rename a series of peaks.

One of my favourite stretches of Berg.

Just to clarify, the names "Mahout" and "Leopard" originate from Murch's Khulu list, published in the 1994 MCSA journal. Murch included his own references to nameless peaks in inverted commas. I respect Murch's contribution towards the topic, but am of the opinion that a good number of his own names are not appropriate as official names, and they should not be seen as such, even if we use some of them. I don't think it was necessarily his intention for his own names to become official anyway.

If I am correct, "Mahout" is from the Hindi word "महौत" which means a person who rides an elephant (thanks Wikipedia) - hence the relative placement to Elephant. That being said - having a Hindi name for a Berg peak does seem a bit arb.

I am not familiar with an angle where Leopard actually looks like a leopard (unlike Elephant which is quite obvious). This could be titled "Xeni Pass Peak", but the presence of Xeni peak right next to it would make this a bit confusing.

Mahout is currently marked "skeptical" on my khulu list (along with Ndumeni Dome - both of which I have bagged) due to a technicality in the definition. This will require future discussion though.

Two years later (I know), but I am doing some reading on the topic for a project we are planning. And I agree with you that the peak indicated on the map as Thaba Putsoa should be swopped with Thabana Ntlenyana N. That has always been my understanding.

Has there been any more clarity or discussion regarding this? I would love some input here please.
