Quite correct. With A3 copies you get a good coverage on both sides of the escarpment, for the sections where you are further into Lesotho, as well as the KZN side with the passes as an escape route.

We are starting the DGT N-S tomorrow! We head down from Jhb in a full bakkie and are hoping to get going by 1pm (Thursday) to get in a few good Kms on day 1. Planning to be done by 1pm on Tuesday at the latest (ambitious) in order to do it in 5 days! 5 of us going down. Packs range between 12 and 14kg.
Edit - pack is at 15kg fully loaded with water tent etc... after cutting 1kg from food and snacks...

Looks like they're carrying a SPOT device for those who would like to follow along. share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0brEEsLGQLpgBaFcd06DEXBmiUOsqLWaC
After starting at 15:20ish, they're just about to leave the Khubedu and head towards the valley behind Fangs Pass.

At 8AM they are on their way up Stimela Ridge. After 6 hours of daylight (3 yesterday and 3 today), I would have expected them to be further than that. Hopefully their pace will pick up from here. So now they have to drop down into the valley before climbing towards Black and Tan Wall - they should make up some ground on the Cutback Highway.

Looking at the weather forecast up there they are being hammered by 80+ km/h winds

Their spot track seems to show them by Giants Castle - they seem to be delayed but hope all going well otherwise!
A team of 3 of us are heading up to Witsieshoek today, and will set off on our own GT 5-day attempt early tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. We aim to finish on Saturday. Weather forecast is generally good but looks like a front might move through Fri night/Sat am ... hoping that doesn't cut us short at Giants or Sani! Not carrying a spot device but will have a Sat phone. Report to follow on our return.
