Bushman's Nek: Thamathu Cave & Bushman's Cave

Hi,

I'm looking at doing Thamathu Cave, Thamathu Pass and Bushman's Cave over two nights and three days hiking with the kids. Are there any security concerns with overnighting in these caves? From the map, the caves seem to be easily accessible from Lesotho.

The caves are easily accessible, however I am not aware of any security issues in this area. The last time we slept in Lammergeier Cave we walked up to Goat's Cave and hung out with some locals for 20 minutes, an interaction helped no doubt by my friend's being conversant in Sotho. Most locals are friendly. Just take precautions.

Hi Craig ,
Did you do the hike? How was it? I am considering taking my kids this weekend.

We did our hike over the Easter weekend, ascending Thamathu Pass and descending Bushman's Pass. We encountered this herd of cattle at the head of Bushman's Pass.

And stumbled upon this fellow lower down the pass.

There was also cow dung on the small ridge directly opposite Bushman's Cave. We didn't see the herdsmen, but they are clearly about.
