 I like your thinking Magan, and your list is great. I'm having difficulties keeping it to 5!

Currently I would say:
1) Bell Traverse (have to agree strongly with you there - it was my first overnight hike in the Berg and got me as hooked as I am)
2) Climb Cathedral Peak
3) Grand Traverse (Mafadi and Thabana Ntlenyana must be part of it)
4) Spend a night in Roland's Cave
5) Curl up in your sleeping bag and endure a ferocious storm in a well-protected cave

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

1) Manxome Pass (no bias there ;) )
2) Have a harmonica jamming session with the Basothos
3) Cram 14 people into an Isodome in mid-winter for a card game
4) Climb the Angus Leppan route on the Sentinel
5) Ice Climbing at Giant's Castle

OK so I still have to do the last 2...

seeing I raised the topic, i'm granting rights to extend the list :

6) climb Mafadi or Thabana Ntlenyana …. There’s something cool about saying I reached the highest point in ….
7) Hike a full day in mist
8) Mtb up Sani Pass / Mike’s Pass
9) Hike in snow
10) Enjoy the orange sheen on the buttresses and brown grass on a cold winters morning (preferably from a warm sleeping bag in a cave with a hot cup of milo)

Thanks for the rights!

6) Like it or not, the smugglers are a significant part of the Berg and they've gotta be experienced firsthand. Watch rush hour coming down the Camel in the afternoons, or see a donkey train of dagga heading down Rockeries Pass.

7) Sit on the escarpment edge with the clouds below you and the peaks sticking out - preferably in time to see the sun rise through the clouds.

8) Understand what the fuss is all about with howling winds that literally push you over (and have you crawling up passes  )

9) Enjoy the silence of a lofty summit only to hear the rushing sound of a lammergeyer or vulture gliding close by.

10) Seeing Stijn extended the "must do" list to a "to do" list, it seems Devils Tooth is a "trophy classic" for those that climb.

Oh, and one should see San rock art too.

This is one of the most enjoyable threads, thanks guys! Stijn, so what was the design capacity of that tent?

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

can't stop me now :

11) see a cloud carpet .... ok, you got that one ahead of me ...

12) a close up of a Lammergeier ... and another !

13) climb the peaks with the great views : Stimela, Cathedral, Cleft, Trojan Wall, Giants Castle, Hodgsons, Rhino ……..etc

14) hike at night

15) Good pics, to relive the hike some months down the line

Yup had a close encounter with a smuggler train which was heading up Rockeries ... haha with a straight face trying to convince them that I have more buddies coming down the Pass thro the thick mist using pointing language .... oops, hope they are not reading this forum !! And then hiking away as fast as I could looking over my shoulder !!!

3 - and the game we were playing involved swapping seating positions after every round... -10 degrees outside, +30 degrees inside

Here's another one:

6) Running across to the helicopter landing on the Cathedral Peak shoulder to beg a lift for a member in our party who had just sprained her knee. After blank stares from pilot and passengers, realising that you look and smell like you've been in the mountains for 6 days and you just war-painted your face with mud that morning. :woohoo:

Admittedly, that one could be a little difficult to experience again.

If the forum does not mind, i am going to add a list of 10 thngs I have done in the berg gleaned from your lists, and added one or two....will that be ok?

In no particular order...

1. Hiked at night, many times usually until about 1 in the morning.
2. Done Bell traverse, my first ever hike, went up Zeni and down Bell Traverse in a weekend and was knackered and hooked at the same time.
3. Bumped into smugglers at night on-route to Keith Bush.
4. Watched smugglers coming up pass, stop to rest, and then watched them run like mad when they saw ask scoping them through bino's.
5. V close to a Lammergeyer.
6. Cloud carpet.
7.hiked in a raging blizzard.
8. Sat out an electric storm on the top in a tent, strikes danger close
9. Sucked and munched ice lollies from a frozen w/f whilst hiking
10.Got chased by a rinkals

Want to hike up Manxsome.
Want to sleep in Rolands Cave

Awesome shot!!
The fact that our lists are so similar just highlights the really good things about the Berg, and it's great to have this in common with other Berg addicts. We are really priveledged to have these mountains, which are relatively undiscovered.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

great list, chaps!

1 - get thoroughly lost in thick mist and snow on the summit because you left the compass behind. If you still get your dumb ass out in time before mountain rescue gets called, you'll feel invincible...
2 - catch a wild trout on fly close to the main Berg (or on the summit, but that's still a must-do)
3 - swim/bathe in mid-winter in that little pool at the top of tugela falls (there must be a thick rim of ice around the edge of the pool - and my wife wonders why we have no kids yet :S )
4 - fry up a full English brekkie on your camp stove: bacon, eggs, sausages, mushies, tomato, the works - in full view of all the other clowns trying to swallow their lukewarm Oatsoeasy (for best results do it on a long weekend at Mont-aux-Sources)
5 - climb the chain ladder at night (stars, lights over qwa qwa...) in winter without gloves...
