Passport stamps ??

Hi all
We hiked from Sani top this weekend, getting stamped out of SA and into Lesotho, meaning to come down Bushmans, but we cut the hike short, and now we are back in JHB with no return stamps.

how much poo are we in?? and what to do now??

Just kidding. You will probably be fine - my current passport includes me being in no country for a day, leaving OR Thambo and returning without getting stamped in anywhere inbetween, being stamped out of SA into Lesotho, then back into SA without being stamped back out of Lesotho etc. I have even seen people with dual passports getting stamped out in JHB on their SA passports, and in on the EU side on an EU passport.

Not really leaving me with a warm fuzzy feeling, but thanks anyway.

Why don’t you phone HA, tell them that you are planning a trip now to exit SA at Sani pass but might re-enter SA at a point without a border post. And ask what would be their requirement in such case. Don’t tell them, you’ve done it already.

Then post the response for us all to know.

As far as I know the South African side don't care about which side of the border you are (or the system doesn't really know). I already entered Lesotho twice without stamping back in without problems. In of the instances I left SA again a few weeks later via OR Tambo without issues.

We once hiked from Letseng Mine to Mnweni as a group of 14 and none of us had problems afterwards. We entered at Ficksburg/Maputso and never stamped out. A friend of mine has repeated this hike twice already without issues

The Lesotho side can have an issue if they can't find an exit stamp when you try to re-enter. I simply stated that I left Lesotho via Monatsa border post and that there was no-one to give an exit stamp (as this is usually the case).

I wouldn't stress at all. The stamps are really rather meaningless and even old fashioned. I have a friend who goes consistently to the USA on his Dutch passport (otherwise they mess you around for 3 hours on an SA passport in an American airport...) and returns home on his SA, same to Australia. No worries
