Hi All!
This is my first VE post so please bear with me.
We are planning a hike from Friday the 13th to Monday the 16th of Dec:
Day1 - CP Hotel to Cathedral peak
Day2 - Cathedral Peak to Twins Cave doing the traverse
Day3 - Twins Cave to Rowland's Cave
Day4 - Back to the hotel via Camel Pass
Quick Questions:
1.) When starting the hike from the hotel, we need to cross the Mlambonja river on our way to Sherman's cave. Anybody know if it is crossable with the rains? Any alternative crossing points?
2.) Water - I know we need to fill water at Orange Peel Gap going up. Will we get any water on the traverse? Possible drips? Any suggestions on the rest of the route? Is the water on the escarpment OK?
3.) Any comments or things I should be aware of?
Thanks for the assistance!

Hey ! Sorry for the lack of advice. Just letting you know that we might see you on the route!
We are camping at the bottom of Mhlambonja on the 14th. Then heading to Twins cave on the 15th, Bell cave on the 16th and then we are off the mountain.
We might actually miss you in fact.
I asked similar questions on the Bell Traverse thread, which you can view for excellent advice.
Although you ask an excellent question regarding Mhlambonja river, I was wondering that was well.
Kind Regards and Safe Hiking

Hi Jan-Louw
Quick Questions:
1.) When starting the hike from the hotel, we need to cross the Mlambonja river on our way to Sherman's cave. Anybody know if it is crossable with the rains? Any alternative crossing points?
It was very low last weekend, I doubt it will be too bad at this stage although it can rise quickly.
In February this year we did have to use the way around as below in the badly drawn red
2.) Water - I know we need to fill water at Orange Peel Gap going up. Will we get any water on the traverse? Possible drips? Any suggestions on the rest of the route? Is the water on the escarpment OK?
You would need to fill just after Shermans cave. The rest of the route might have some drips along the way, it didn't really have anything 2 weeks ago but with recent rains you might find some specifically in Bell cave, below Bell cave and around the Mitre, but keep a look out.
Once at Twins you can risk heading down the gully in front of Twins and looking out for the spring on the left, or pop up to the escarpment. Twins will also have a slow drip.
Hopefully the escarpment rivers are actually flowing now, they weren't 2 weeks ago
3.) Any comments or things I should be aware of?
If you don't have tents then make sure you know where the various Ndumeni caves are in case another group is using Rolands
