New to the Drakensbergs! was created by Peggy
Hi! me and a friend from the UK have a week to hike in the Drakensberg's from mid March. Both relatively experienced hikers, but new to the area. Would love to do a couple of two/three days hikes as well as some longer one day ones. We can scramble, but we're not climbers... We want to challenge ourselves, but also not end up a rock face with no idea how to get down!
There's quite an overwhelming amount of information around - would be so so grateful for any advice!
If anyone wants to buddy up with us, would also be interested
Thanks!
Peggy

Hi Peggy. Are you looking at any specific area in the Drakensberg? Always better to do your first Drakensberg hike with someone with experience in the Berg.
Vertical Endeavour is the best place to get info ...... read as much as you can and use what is available in the "DOWNLOAD" section.

Hi Drakie1 thanks for replying. Was considering Cathedral Peak or Giant's castle area as seen to be a few well known loops around there. Also reading about Bannerman's hut as a relatively accessible one. Intending to devote the next month to research!

Hi Peggy,
There are some nice loops in the little Berg in the Injisuthi area as well. Injisuthi campsite at the trailhead is magnificent in itself.
Also, not sure if you intend to go to the top of the Berg. Grays Pass is a moderate difficulty pass in the the Central Drakensberg.
You will find all the of info you need on the above and and more on Vertical Endeavour!
I might be able to "buddy up", depending on dates.
Regards
Chris

Hi Peggy,
When do you and your friend plan to hike Drakensberg? I am an independent hiker (own camping gear) planning to hike Northern Drakensberg traverse (Sentinel Car Park -> Cathedral Peak Hotel) most likely around March 17 - 21. Would you be interested in hiking together?
Terry
