Hi Guys,
Planning our first trip as a family to bergs this January, kids are 12 and 10.. We want to make it fun but should still be slightly challenging..
Would like to do a 3 day hike, or maybe just an overnight.. Was thinking Injisuthi camp to marble baths, then not sure from there..
Anyone done something similar or have any suggestions?
TIA

If going to Injisuthi you can go to Lower Injisuthi cave on night 2, but just be aware of river levels, that whole route can be dangerous crossings, especially the first crossing which might be better to take the detour route.
Also note that these caves are very popular, so book in advance.
Other good 1 night options:
Pillar cave at Garden Castle
Cyprus cave at Mkhomazi

Another option among many:
Monks Cowl up to Blindmans Corner and could spend one night.
Could do 2nd night at Keith Bush Camp as then all your elevation was done on day one.
If you feel adventurous, you could hike up INtunja and decide of you want to risk the gap....but if you didnt, its still amazing views from up there and not very much off the path.
Coming home is treat with the sphinx and waterfall near the end with good food options in Cathkin Valley for rewards...

You can also hop over to Grindstone caves from Marble baths. For a nice overnighter you can also go up Van Heyenings pass and sleep over in Wonder Valley cave. Just make sure you have a good map or gps track as weve had to help a few people getting lost in the mist here before. Really easy route, but in the mist things often looks completely different. You can also go a bit further south to Giants Castle. Took my kids on this route when they were 7 (girl) and boy (9).
Day 1: Giants Castle camp to Bannermans hut. Easy 11kms along a good path. Just 1 river to cross near the camp.
Day 2: Up Judges pass and down Bannermans pass. Sleep over at Bannermans hut again
Day 3: Bannermans hut to Giants Castle camp.
A variation on this route could be (and we did this later with the kids) night 2 sleep over in Bannermans cave, and then come down Langies to either go to Giants Castle camp or again bannermans hut for a 4 day hike. The rivers this time of year could be flowing quite strongly so just check them if you want to go down Lnagies to camp directly, else I'd advise going down the Bannermans hut route again.
So many choices!!!

If u planning to leave from iNjisuthi and crossing the main river near boundary pool I would suggest u use the g11b route which takes off on the same side of the bridge as when u approach the hutted camp by car. The main river runs really high, and even with the chain to cross I would be worried about taking young kids across it. This path is slightly longer, but safer during rainy season.
