Injasuti Camp

I thought everyone would like to know of the latest situation at Injasuti camp which has been closed for some 6 months now due to severe flooding in February.  We had heard that hikers were being allowed in but were unsure as to whether access across the bridge before the campsite was possible,

We arrived on a very rainy day and were taken aback at the devastation which is still very visible all these months later.  Approaching the bridge it appeared intact and it was clear that Ezemvelho staff are still  using it to drive in and out.  We drove up to the office and were told that funding has recently been approved for the repair of the bridge but that it was deemed unsafe for the public to use and hikers are not permitted to hike in the area at all until the bridge has been made safe.  This could take months of course!

As we were driving out ( now a bit more gingerly I might add!) we noticed a massive boulder that has been washed downstream and appears to be wedged under the bridge ( this was not immediately apparent when approaching from the other side). I am wondering whether this boulder is in fact contributing towards holding the bridge up at present!

So, this area is for now, still a no go for hikers.
