Sorry to hear about your home invasion Richard.
Regarding the battery operated alarms; where can these be purchased?

Helloo Christine....thanks. I don't use portable alarms, I see you would need 4 of them and the extra weight will be a problem. If I were a boy scout I would string up some fishing line around the tent and connect it to my cooking pot with a couple of stones in it. Actally Elaine is my portable alarm  as she sleeps so lightly that a smallest movement would wake her up.....and I am her protector once wake

To all those camping or hiking in the Amphitheatre area:

Please could I have reports of any problems experienced with the locals or Lesotho Defence Force. Any problems at the chain ladders are out of our jurisdiction but should be reported immediately to the manager at Witsieshoek (Jan) on 058 713 6361. Remember if you dont report problems they cant be resolved.

Thanks.

Hello everyone, my girlfriend and I are planning on going up chain ladders this Saturday 22nd of April. Someone recently brought to my attention the security issues experienced last year, I was last up there in 2015 when I started my GT. Have there been any other issues and would it be safe to head up there for the afternoon and head down before the end of the day?

Hi Anrichp,

I was up there last weekend and only saw one Mosotho shepherd with his sheep over 5 days. It is quite safe to go up the chainladders for a day hike.

I would, however. head up there a bit earlier, not only in the afternoon, so that you don't get caught out in the dark coming back

Welcome to the forum..

What are you planning at Monk's Cowl, and how many in your group?

You shouldn't have any problems though..

I was thinking of doing Monks Cowl area over the 11th August weekend too.

Is it safe to leave a camp at Keiths Bush Camp and go up Grays Pass for the day and back down? Is it safe to leave the camp and maybe stash gear away. I would imagine that there is much less traffic coming through from Lesotho in winter

There was a recent post about a day-hike up and down Gray's, and they hid their packs and had no problems, but they were further down the valley in the thick bush and not at KBC. I was there in May, and we saw two headlamps coming down just after dark and several workers descending in the morning, so I wouldn't assume there'd be less traffic in winter, but I guess it depends on the day. You definitely shouldn't risk leaving your tent set-up. If you do stash, stash everything, hide it very well, and try to make sure no-one's watching from above.
