Camping near Orange Peel Gap was created by brio
Hi. Could I ask something slightly off topic?
Has anyone been over to right at the top of Orange Peel?
Is there a place to pitch two tents?
Looking at Google Earth, it seems to be away from the path and may be safer to camp.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

I have created a new thread for this Brio.
Do you mean East of Orange Peel Gap, down in the valley? Yes I've noticed it is very flat there. Lots of local traffic though.

Yes. East of the gap, but on top of the ridge.
It may be to exposed. The ridge is not wide.
I looked on GE again and see a few paths on the north side.
Looks like one could get to Baboon Rock on that ridge

Judging by the number of flat places on the ridge if you go towards Cathedral Peak, I would guess you can find the same if you head East. I think I see what you mean, some 650m from Orange Peel. Water is an issue though, you'll have to fetch some from the valley below. And yes you can connect with Ganabu and Baboon Rock from there.

Hi guys. Around Easter, three friends and myself are planning to leave early from Joburg and begin hiking up towards Cathedral Peak at 11:00-12:00. We are planning to camp at Orange Peel gap (night 1), Easter cave (night 2) and then upper Ndumeni cave/Roland's cave (night 3). I wanted to know if anyone has more info about camping at Orange Peel gap? I know there is no water close by so we would have to fill up at the river after Sherman's cave (which is fine); I'm more concerned about camping in the path of some locals travelling during the night (last year September while camping at Chi Chi bush camp on our Mnweni/Rockeries loop, a couple in our group were woken by the sound of people outside their tent as they were trying to steal valuables from under the vestibules). So are there any good spots away from the path at OPG or do you recommend camping somewhere else? Thanks for any input and for maintaining an awesome site.

Hi Guys. We went to that area last month to take photos. Not to climb Cathedral as we have done that. There was no decent place to tent near the top of Orange Peel and of course no water. So we walked further to the valley just before where you climb up Cathedral Peak. There was a good place on the path for many tents on a high flat ridge, but decided not to tent there as ground had been ripped up by lightning and there were thunder clouds around. We went into the valley just under Cathedral Peak with good water and tented there although not many flat tenting spots. The photos are self explanatory.....

There are one or two flat spots above the path after OPG and heading towards CP.
