Camping near the top of Cathedral Peak

A bit off topic - unless someone going up CP also had to stash overnight gear while doing it - I find it quite hard to hide packs effectively once above the montane belt. There are some many angles and perspectives that you don't see when at the bags.

Sorry for the late response, but I have been a little busy of late.
I have attached an image indicating the possible campsites as per Ghaznavid and Viking and the approximate position of a small spring which we have found very reliable well into June. I am not sure of its viability at this stage of the season. It is situated a little above the path and is noticeable by a greener patch above the path. We have still, to be on the safe side, always filled up at the waterfall before ascending to Orange Peel Gap.
We have used "Ghaznavid's" campsite and have never had any incidents with (or even seen) locals and would not expect any problems with parties climbing the peak, as long as items are stashed in the tent.
It is a very suitable site for camping, with amazing views.

Sterkhorn/Ghaz/Viking, would you possibly have GPS co-ordinates of the camping spots (both) and the stream? I am planning to hike there coming Easter weekend.

I attached the route i will be taking. If you don't have GPS...try and pin point it on the map. With the yellow highlighted area being somewhere to camp.

Thanks gents! :)

Here is the kmz for the water trickle. No guarantees that it will be running and you might have to take your water for the night and next day up from the waterfall further down.

I don't have coords for those sites as I haven't used them, but the lower one is near the path and both should be fairly obvious as I don't remember much flat ground around there.

Went up there a week ago, and there is no water from the waterfall all the way to Mlambonja river. That section is very dry!

I have been watching the rain fall in Cathedral Peak area. A lot has fallen since Sabine posted the last post. And i see that a lot more rain is coming the next few days. Who recons that there will be water at the small stream near Cathedral Peak? Has anyone been up there lately?

I was up to Twins cave last weekend and approaching from the bottom via Mlambonja pass we found water up to about 2500m ASL. Lots of waterfalls everywhere, really beautiful. A strong drip close to Twins Cave as well.I don't know the route you plan to go up, hope this helps.
