For reference, here  are a few photos around the Mlambonja campsite (near the contour path-Mlambonja river intersection).

The campsite is easy to find when the bottlebrush tree is in flower.

None of the ‘pitches’ is very big.
We slept out with no tent. That allows easy pickings of the flattest spots.

A few hundred meters upstream there is another small area.

Note the red bottlebrush tree of the main campsite in the background.

Make sure you head up the valley. It never disappoints.

@Tiska,

How long ago was the photo taken of the upper campsite, the one above the Bottlebrush tree? We descend Mlambonja fairly regularly and I don't recall seeing this sleepover spot. The Bottlebrush campsite is definitely small and bumpy, the upper campsite looks 5star in comparison :-)

Hi Riaang -
The photo was taken on Monday 7 Oct 24.
That was on our descent of Mlambonja Pass. We were looking out for that additional camping spot upstream of the bottlebrush tree the day before, on our way up the pass, but did not see it. Your post of 22 Sept 21 had alerted us to the additional spot. We walked right into it on the way down. No GPS data for the additional spot unfortunately.

Hi Tiska,

This wasn't quite the spot I was referring to, but I am really glad you found this one as it is in much better condition (flat and level!!) than the one I saw. I guess it was created recently. Amazing how quickly things can change in the berg. One proper rainstorm and old campsites disappear, with new ones appearing. This is one of the things I really like about the Berg, sometimes it forces you off the known path into new territories to search for water/sleeping spots/new routes etc.
