Lower Injisuthi Cave to Centenary Hut

Has anyone hiked to lower Injasuti Cave from Centenary Hut?

The first 3km should be a contour path which is followed also by approximately 3km of an "ill defined" path according to the map. We hiked this route this weekend but there was absolutely no path linking the contour path to Lower Injasuti. We hiked directly following the GPS digitised path from the Darkensberg paper hiking map3. This is extremely shaky and I would not recommend anyone to try this.

If you have hiked this section, can you comment if / what was missed for finding the path down to Lower Injsuti Cave? Or even better if someone does have a GPS track of this section can you share this?

According to the maps the contour path north from Bannerman Hut actually exists (even though it disappears at the hut and I believe it reappears near Corner Pass), its 4km to Sleeping Beauty Cave (instead of 3.2km) and there is only 1 tributary of the Mashai River on the path along the Mashai River to Sleeping Beauty Cave (there are actually 2), those maps are not always 100% correct...

Bear in mind that it only takes lots of rain and a path not being used for 6 months for it to become completely overgrown and therefore hard to find, and the maps are over 10 years old, so we can't hold it against them.

@ ghaznavid are you getting southern and central berg a little mixed up here, he was asking about Centenary Hut to LiC.

@ST: lol, I'm stating errors I have found on their maps, not necessarily localised, I am aware that Garden Castle is Southern Berg, my main point is that the maps aren't 100% correct, they even state that on the back of the maps...

Good morning Boerkie :)

Well discovering that the contour path north of Bannerman Hut doesn't exist was part of my 3rd attempt on Popple in April this year, and I'm trying it again later this year, but via a northern route...

Thanks guys yes this is Central Drakensberg Injasuti. I am fimiliar with paths not being clear on the escarpment and usually in the riverbeds, but usually they are acceptable on the ridge/foot hills.

Anyway I would like some input of someone that did this actual route section to see if I really missed something big or if this route is not in general used.

Morning,

I have done the route the other way round in feb this year, LIC to Centenary. The path from the cave was quite distinct but faded about 1km later. If I remember correctly, erosion was the main culprit, especially when the path approaches and crosses a stream. There was a lot of rain over last summer and most of the path was overgrown too. Didn’t look like many people had used it. Once on the contour path, then it is fine.

Hope that helps to some extent.
