Corner Pass / Judge Pass, Mafadi, Leslie's Pass Loop

Hey Wizman

Thank you for your reply, I do not own a GPS. Do you think one would be needed, the more research i have done the more i think a GPS and a guide is a good idea. We are going in Sept and all booked. Does anybody have any suggestions on a guide at a reasonable price?

Thanks
Ant

Just to make sure we are on the same page here with the right info. Are you perhaps referring to the foot of Judge's pass? Not taking the left will take you to Giant's Castle Reserve (eventually).

Hello There
We are intending to embark on this route in the other direction.
I did this 30 years ago when at university. Do you recommend this variant? or is the first night at centenary hut the recommended plan of attack? What about spending a night at the cave above marble baths? is this cave easy to find?
Appreciated
Philip

Marbles Bath cave, yup, very easy to find. Look for the annex though to the left, much better cave

The only "downside" with this is that your 1st day will be quite short, you'll have a lot to do on day 2 bundu bashing and then still climbing Leslies

I am looking for some advice on finding water this time of the year.
We will be making our summit via corner pass and at some or other time in the future we will be making our descent at Leslie's.
I have been looking at my map and I am hoping to find some water close to the summit at corner pass (1 to 2 km into Lesotho) and then I also know about the stream at Leslie's if you cross into Lesotho

Can any one please give me info on if we will be able to find water in these areas and also any other water spots between Corner and Leslie's that we can try?

ps I think ASL's wife will not be happy with me if I steal he's water reserve

I doubt you'll have any issues with the rivers coming off Mafadi and Injisuthi Dome.
Check out this thread for a good layout of the area www.vertical-endeavour.com/forum/drakensberg-trips/55491-injisuthi-area-summit-escarpment-exploration.html

I would be surprised if you would need to walk more than 1km into Lesotho from Corner Pass to find water.

Once you begin the slog up to Mafadi/Injasuthi Dome be prepared not to encounter water at this time of year, until you hit the valley behind Leslie's Pass on the other side.

With any luck there will be some snow around Mafadi which you can melt for water, so take a little bit of extra fuel with for your stove.

PS: I will be merging this thread with the official Corner Pass - Mafadi - Leslie's Pass thread once you have had a chance to read this.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.
