Ships prow loop

Hi there.
I'm wanting to plan a 5 day loop from injisuthi camp, 2days up ships prow, a day on top, 2days down Leslie's pass. But by the sounds of it Leslie's doesn't sound like fun, more bushwacking after bushwacking up ships.Chose Leslie's so we could camp at marble baths. Never been there.
So I'm considering pushing from top of ships to organ pipes and come back 2 days from there.Never been to organs and it looks awesome. It looks like a far way to organs tho. Has anyone done that loop?it's big distances after climbing ships so maybe a bit too optimistic, but looks like a great loop. Also is Leslie's that bad to get down?
Going with a group of moderately fit people. All done a couple berg hikes.
Thanx

Why are you set up doing Ships Prow?
What route are you planning to do back from Organ Pipes, are you wanting to go down Organ Pipes and then what's the plan to get back to Injisuthi, via lower berg contour path?
What previous berg passes have you done?

Hi Travis,

Welcome to VE!

I've done this loop in both directions, multiple times. While the Ships Prow river bushwacking section is not that much fun, it won't be as bad now in winter. Summer is a whole different ball game :-) Also, it's only a 2km section, so while frustrating, the frustration will be over in under 3 hours.
Leslies doesn't have much bushwacking. The last stretch from the bottom of Leslies to Marble Baths is bushy, there is a path most of the way, and again, as with Ships, this time of year shouldn't be too much overgrown.

Your problem with Organ pipes is then that you will be far from your starting oint, so how do you plan to get back to your car?

There's been a number of writeups on VE about this loop, read them to get a good understanding of the route. In short, a 5 day trip for this route would be a very generous amount of time, with 4 days being a typical comfortable number of days. If I was doing this route, I'd do it as follows:
Day 1 - Injasuthi campsite to the camping spot in Ships Prow riverbed.
Day 2 - Rise early for amazing sunrises in the mountains. Up the dreaded riverbed, up Ships (take enough water, this pass tops out high and you will be in the sun all the way), then south towards Leslies. You can sleep anywhere near the top of Leslies. Plenty of tenting spots next to the river. Distances are not too far and it's relatively easy walking.
Day 3 - Down Leslies towards Marble Baths. Easy start, the lower section of the pass, just before you get u on the ridge is a slip-and-slide of loose pebbles, but with plenty of bushes to hold onto :-) Send the night in the caves, and relax next to the pools at the end of the day
Day 3 - An easy walk-out (maybe 10km?) back to camp.

As an alternative, after going up Ships you could also go North rather, and then go down Grays pass and walk back on the lower berg contour paths to Injasuthi camp. Lots of options here.

Whichever route you chose, enjoy the berg!

Ya I was planning coming back on contour paths. You can cover big distance on lower berg paths,so it's an option, and would love to see organs. Haven't done much around there. I've done quite a few passes, all the mweni passes, giants, cathedral, couple others. We tried ships years ago and one in the party was injured, couldn't make it up, got 300m from top and had to turn back,so been itching to get back, but Leslie's loop is a bit short for 5 days. Maybe depending on how the group is feeling at the top of ships we will make a decison.will be 5 tough long days to go organs. Just wondering if someones done it.

Thanx riaang.
Good to hear it's better in winter. I only hike in winter for that reason. No rain, mist, bush.
I see on the way to organs is tianyaku  pass. I don't see much said about it. Have you done that? Any idea what it's like?
