There is an alternative to the gully - I did a route on Wilson's which was mostly grass and involved only crossing the gully once. The route is on the true left slopes in the lower parts, and on the true right in the upper parts. The pass needn't be technical. Its the same situation with Rwanqa, and even Pins for that matter - if you stick to the gully you have a very different experience of the pass than if you take the grassy slopes.Dillon wrote: Wilson’s Pass is steep, scrambly and rocky. Throw in some snow or rain and it would become rather technical. IMHO, overall, it is a more serious undertaking than Bollard Pass, however all of the big waterfalls can be bypassed on grass slopes.

Thanks Intrepid. I think we both suspected that there would be another route on grass slopes, but with the absence of any path to follow, we figured the gully would be the easiest to stick to and use the grass slope to bypass any major waterfalls.
It might just be all in my head, but personally I'd rather ascend than descend via grass slopes. Come to think of it, I reckon I probably just prefer climbing generally - descending just hurts!

Thanks for the photos Dillon
I agree - I would also rather go up Wilsons if I did it a 3rd time.
