Compliments of the season to everyone.

Has anyone hiked from Golden Gate to the chain ladder before? Is this doable? Would love to hear from the experts.

In 2015, AndrewP and I did a traverse from Kgotjwane Pass to the Chain Ladders, including walking to the northern end of the escarpment. Writeup is posted on the site:

I haven't done anything north of that, though. I know it has been done before.

Hi

I have hiked the section from golden gate to the chain ladder (with a detour to Afriski)

Skip the waffle and get to the actual trip report.

I've done a hike from the Chain Ladders ending at Golden Gate.

The escarpment between the Chain Ladders and the northern-most 3000m peak, Mejhatijhane, is the familiar Berg escarpment as we all know it. At Mejhatijhane the escarpment makes a dramatic turn into Lesotho and a subsidiary range continues northwards, following the border. Eventually this smaller range runs into the Golden Gate area.

This is the point where you have options. You can follow the border, or you can take more direct routes towards Golden Gate which is more time efficient (this is what we did). The latter involves crossing the Caledon Valley. Some settlements may be encountered along the way.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Awesome Intrepid. Do you perhaps have a track of the route you took?
