Two of my mates, Mark and Clive, are planning on doing the Giant's Cup trail as a two day self supported trail run at the end of this month.
They are not pro athletes or even competitive trail runners, just ordinary guys who love the berg as much as we do. This run is more of a personal challenge for them as they have never run this kind of distance before.
They have decided to not only challenge themselves but to use the opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause and challenge others to donate. They have chosen the vulture project as their charity and all donations go to this project. As we all know, the vulture project is dedicated to the conservation of the Cape and Bearded vultures of our beloved Drakensberg. So if anyone is keen to chuck a few Rands towards the vultures, please do so!
I have included the links to their Facebook group and to the charity below.
The site used to collect the donations, lists all contributors by name and their amounts, so it is all very transparent.
As I mentioned above, these are two of my mates and regular hiking partners, so I will vouch for the authenticity of this undertaking.

Shot for the write up guy. Fundraising is going well already.

Nice one
Considering how Clive did on Mlambonja/Cockade, and Giant's Cup is "only" 60km on a good trail, I rate they'll probably reach Bushman's Nek around 2PM. I guess they plan to overnight in Wintershoek Hut?

The boys are off this weekend and thanks to Merv's (Smurfatefrog) contribution, the amount raised so far is over R8k. That's 80% of the goal amount, and that with contributions from mainly friends and family.
I'm sure the Vulture Project will be chuffed with the donation!

So the lads completed their run as planned and in doing so raised more than R16'000.00 for the Vulture fund. Well done boys!
