@ Sterkhorn

Yup. You are 100% correct.
I thought the whole thing had failed because it kept dropping the site when I was loading image, so was pretty surprised to see it at all.
How to put it where it belongs please ? !

@ SeriousTribe2

Under your signon, go into "Galleries Dashboard", then under the column "Action", click on the first icon "Edit" opposite your picture. Once into that picture edit, you can change the category to the correct one.

I haven't tried to change a category, but it looks like it should work.

How long did it last, or are you just faster than light on that trigger finger?

Can't remember accurately but it may have lasted a minute or so. If you ever run into a guy on the escarpment with two pouches in front, attached to the backpack straps, it is likely to be me. One is my camera, always grab-ready, otherwise you miss shots like this, and you take less photos generally, only to be regretted afterward. The other is my GPS which is continually reading and marking stuff.

That God Rays is a classic too - love it when the Berg does that. I've moved the image into the appropriate category already. Sterkhorn's instructions are spot-on however, should you want to edit in future. Anyone having trouble uploading images, feel free to send me a PM for assistance. Software is unfortunately never perfect. Image upload issues are sometimes internet-connection related, and sometimes as a result of too much virtual memory required (on the server) while processing the image at a particular instance. This is something I'm trying to solve, but both causes are generally alleviated by simply trying again and/or reducing the image size somewhat.

OK, so this featured images term has now closed. The number of votes on each image is still pretty low, lets get these up before we declare the winner. So far Serious Tribe's "Clearing Storm" is in the lead. Note that currently the rating is weighted by the number of votes as well as the value of the vote itself, ie if an image has many votes (irrespective of what the vote is), this is better than if an image has few votes.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

So, here are the results (remember the ratings are weighted, meaning its not just the value of the vote, but the number of votes too):

{joomplu:426} Summer's Morning from Bell Cave by mnt_tiksa: 3.90 (5 votes)

{joomplu:427} Bliss Hill by drsnoobab: 3.63 (3 votes)

{joomplu:428} Western Triplet by spook: 3.70 (4 votes)

{joomplu:429} Tugela Falls by Stijn: 3.88 (4 votes)

{joomplu:430} Clearing Storm by Serious tribe: 4.61 (4 votes)

{joomplu:435} Evening Settles In by Sterkhorn: 3.52 (2 votes)

{joomplu:436} Halo by intrepid: 3.81 (2 votes) ... (no more mister nice guy!)

{joomplu:437} God Rays by SeriousTribe 2 4.24 (4 votes)

...and the winner is....Clearing Storm by Serious tribe! ...oh wait... didn't we agree to enforce a handicap system? ;)

Congratulations, an awesome shot it is!

So, this image will be featured on the front page for up until end of March.

Did everyone enjoy this activity? Anything we should do different? I'd like to see the number of votes for each image go up. I've gone ahead and created the next round:

Hats off to ST for a great pciture that really stands out in the competition.

I've been wondering how the near ridge in the winning photo, which frames the photo so nicely, is in focus, along with the background. When using a big lens, I've struggled to get the depth of field to keep anything close by in focus, particularly in such low light conditions.

Thanks guys, first time I have won a photographic comp thats because it is the first time i have ever entered one. I usually shy away from this sort of thing, but hey its all for a good cause. Upping the std of our berg hikers imagery is a good thing.

@mnt_tiska. The image was shot with a focal length of 200mm f8. Bear in mind that both elements of the image were quite far away from me so the dof(depth of field) was enough to get both in sharp focus. In this case i was lazy as i quickly grabbed my friends camera and did not bother to put it on a tripod as i would have done if i had shot it on my medium format camera (mf), although i do have a steady hand. A rule of thumb is never to shoot at a slower shutter speed than you focal length, rather put it on a tripod with a cable release. In this case, no slower than 1/250 second, although i had to shoot it at 1/50 second because of the low light. In hind site i wished i had used my mf camera on it tripod with its wide angle, and then just cropped the image to the most nb view. The quality even with the extreme cropping wld have been superior to the digital camera. Hope this helps.
