Hi all,
I decided to start the topic after seeing ruthbl's post . My daughter was born almost 9 months ago, and I know a few other people on the forum who have young children. Some time ago I came across Hikeitbaby.com : "a new parents group dedicated to getting families together and out into nature with newborns and little ones." and thought it would be to set up something similar in SA/Joburg etc. Would anyone else be keen?

Fantastic initiative! My son is 4.5 months old now, and I am itching to take him on a hike!

I think it's a great idea. I started taking my son day hiking when he was 4 years old and he did his first overnight hike at 5 years old. He loves it! Now I get asked the same question before every school holiday, "Which hike are we doing this holiday dad?"

Are people wanting to "grow a branch" of the HikeItBaby here in SA? They don't currently have a branch here (it mainly seems to be in America, but there are branches in Canada and Australia as well, so I assume they are open to the idea of international branches). Here is the link to more information about "growing a branch":

Or is the idea to do this more informally? Thoughts?

I'm open to anything. What I had planned is setting up a group/community on meetup.com to schedule events

For anyone wanting more information about carriers for babies/toddlers, here is my latest video comparing 3 soft-structured buckle carriers:
