Source of the Senqu to Mokhotlong - A write up
Agreed Intrepid. We would have taken that approach and hopefully it would have worked.intrepid wrote: Nice one Selous, well done. I also wondered about the passport issue. I think they may reprimand you for doing that (talking from personal and other's experiences) but I think as long a you approach it humbly and apologetically it seems to work out.

On our 2011 Grand traverse we met a family near the top of Ntongelana who had travelled up from Mokhotlong.

Hi Geordie
Ntonjelana is a well used route. I did it in Jan ',12 and I was amazed how many Basotho's use the pass for various reasons. As you mentioned all they do is follow the Senqu valley up and just a couple of Km's before the source they branch off and link into it. We saw lots of evidence of cattle and horse smuggling through the pass too. The ridge just before the saddle is very eroded with lots of paths all over the place.
Hopping to get some pictures loaded for the forum.

Top of Rockeries - the weather was changing after that oppressive heat. Don Boshoff in the foreground managed to complete the pass in just under two hours even in that extreme heat. (From the junction of Nguza and Rockeries streams)
Contemplating a swim across or a steep sided traverse on the left.
