Here is todays Terra Modis Drakensberg satellite image showing the extent of the remains of yesterdays snowfall in light blue:
Also of interest is the extensive snowfield in Mpumalanga which is quite unusual to see!

Another strong cold front will be impacting the Drakensberg over Thursday and Friday this week with more very cold temperatures and snowfall. The whole range is expected to receive snowfall ranging from 5cm in the South to 10cm in the North.
With freezing levels potentially dropping to 1800m this means that high lying parts of the KZN midlands, Free State and Eastern Cape may also experience some light snow:

Has anyone been to see the snow that fell in the Witsieshoek area in the past week? The resort showed pics of some pretty good snow coverage..

Well the event is still a few days away and forecast can obviously change, but as of this morning models are still indicating a potentially significant late season cold front to impact the Drakensberg region over the course of Saturday and possibly up to Wednesday.
Freezing levels will be falling very low for this time of year, possibly even to 1900m in places. With plenty of moisture available this could lead to some good snow falls.
Models are even indicating up to 50cm may be possible in parts of the far Northern Berg escarpment..
At this stage the bulk of the snow is forecast to fall from late Saturday night and through to Monday.
There is also a chance of some heavy rain on Saturday before it turns cold enough to snow.

I'm hoping the forecast is wrong, or at least that the snow falls on Sunday afternoon/Monday - I'm off to Afriski for the weekend to acclimatise for my upcoming trip. I don't really care about the weather for the weekend as long as its safe to drive. I seriously doubt 30cm of snow is going to fall in late October, though. Anything that falls should melt reasonably quickly. Planning to leave Afriski early on Sunday, though - not taking any chances with this.

We've had deeper snow than this in November a few years ago. Any type of weather is possible in the Berg at any time of the year
