Does anyone have info on Die Berg in Mpumalanga (i.e. Mpumalanga high point). Is it close to Dullstroom, as I have seen a turn-off stating 'De Berg' (note, not 'Die Berg) about 8kms from Dullstroom (Lydenburg side).
I may want to get this one bagged next week, if schedule allows.

The map says "Die", many sites say "De", based on the probably naming origins my guess is that "De" is right.
Its on private land - and has a road right to the top. See if you can get the contact details of the owner, I have found someone who knows the owner, but they have refused to give me his contact details.
Its at 25°12'29.41"S 30° 8'59.64"E
It looks like this on GE (and yes, as you can see, the road is right near the summit and is tarred):
Here's a map of the area:
Hope that helps.

Hi all
I am still a fairly new member here so using what time is available to browse and learn about this site. As a result I found this post and keenly read through most of the responses. Take my word for it, this is a cool trip to do, but not to be under-estimated. South Africa is an interesting country and will no doubt throw you a few curve balls along the way.
It seems there are a number of members on this site that are keen to have more info about this type of trip so I will gladly provide this to the site in the form of a Blog post at some stage.
Happy days,
KB

I heard about it - sadly I think that time is out of my league. But that was what I thought a good time for the record would be - my goal was a full day slower.
That Mafadi time is still doable, but there is a group aiming to better it later this month and my upcoming attempt will only be in May/June. I think if I train hard enough I could do Mafadi in 15 hours, but not in my current state of fitness - and possibly not from the Giant's Castle side.
I still want to do the 9 summits though, so maybe I'll just randomly do them when I am close to each of them (at least Mafadi already has a tick next to it)...

A friend and I are now 8 Peaks down on the 9Peaks list, well actually only 7 Peaks and 1 attempt as we got stuck at the base of Leslies Pass when the snow arrived on the 23rd Oct. Seweweekspoort is up at the end of the month to finish the lot, except for the re-try on Mafadi sometime... It's been a great Nine weeks and a good excuse to see some parts of the country away from home. The story and pics are up @ www.facebook.com/9Peaks9Weeks . Toringkop was a bit of a puzzle as it seems that Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve has marked the wrong Peak as being the highest. According to the reserve guide and marking system on the road the Peak at S26 30 35.9 E28 15 31.9 is the highest point, while Toringkop is actually at S26 30 41.0 E28 13 47.0

Welcome to VE
The Dragon has defeated all of us on some occasions. Part of the game. Good old Mafadi - memories of when Popple Peak defeated me 3 times in 4 months. But I got there eventually - same day I did Mafadi for that matter.
