Hi Smurf,

Basemap converted your format into mine as this: S29° 18.233' E29° 26.104'
Do you have any idea if itreferences to the same point?
Looking at it in Google Earth it looks like the gap is closer to the escarpment edge. Measured along the escarpment ridge line to the dropoff from the escarpment 630m?

From a distance - basically look for the narrowest point in the cliff line and aim for that. It is at least 500m inland from the escarpment edge:

I can't remember the exact distance but it is before the rock band curves north again.

Note that the GT track in the downloads section shows a route right on the escarpment edge - I don't think this is possible.

We crossed somewhere in or very near to the circle in the pic below.

In places you find the background gps topo map isn't totally accurate. This may be the case here, the track is good but because the topo (contours, rivers, etc) is slightly out it looks impossible (unless you are viewing it in google earth).

Yes, sorry, I should have qualified that. I meant when the track is viewed against Google earth.

Here is what it looks like in Garmin's basecamp:

Possibly due to signal bounce/poor signal etc.

Viking,

looking at your image I would say this is about the same place as where Basemap (when viewed in Google Earth) also shows the gap. My concern was that I use a different format for waypoints than the one you supplied and Basemap automatically converted the format I copied and pasted into the format I regularly use, and it showed the gap basically at the same place where you drew the circle.

Happiness :)

Yes, in this example it seems there could be an inaccuracy in the track, caused by whatever unknown reason.
