Just to avoid any misunderstanding - when Intrepid mentions a support crew, I take it he means somebody to pick you up at Bushman's Nek at the end!
The record is entirely unsupported, so no meeting of support crews or any food/gear dumps along the way...

Does a little pick-me-up acquired from questionable locals count as support?

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

Yep, I was meaning ground support.
It's a really nice thing to have, especially if someone needs to pull out somewhere along the route. The ground crew can at least verify that you started and ended at a particular time (but can't verify that you did all the checkpoints). Really nice to have someone waiting for you at the end too. I've even had some bottles of champagne lying in the stream just before the border post gates, waiting for our arrival. Nice touch!
@gollum: rather go for locals that are not questionable.

Solo traverse sets new Grand Traverse record

Wow! That is a super time!!! Congrats to Andrew - he certainly deserves it after all his hard work... and solo too! This record will take some beating and it's now well beyond the realm of us weekend warriors
As far as I know, there will be another strong attempt in January by members of the top adventure racing team Cyanosis (Nicholas Mulder and Ryno Griesel). Stay tuned for some fireworks!
@Intrepid: Just a slight correction, your article should read: "...off the record set by Stijn Laenen and Andrew HAGEN...".

Brilliant! Well done Christine. In spite of the delay due to injury, you persisted, and did it. You are an inspiration!

Ryno Griesel and Cobus Van Zyl have just broken Andrew Porter's Grand Traverse record on the weekend of 10-11 April. The new time to beat is 60h29m30s, which means they took less than an hour off the previous record.
