Tents

Just tested my BD Skylight above Leslies pass. It's under 2kg and very big for 2. Great living conditions for sure.

The only caveat is that being a hybrid half single wall tent it's not warm and we had a lot of condensation to shake out in the morning. That said we slept warm enough and I recorded a low of 1 degree in the early hours. We also didn't get dripped on and our bags were dry in the morning.

So all in it did the job and for the weight I feel it's a lot of tent. As we didn't have wind, which is probably part of the reason for the condensation I can't attest to the strength of the tent yet. It is a very tight and sturdy pitch so I am confident but we'll see next time.

Wow, I am jealous of your kit! Is that a MSR reactor stove I spy in front of your tent in the last photo?

I'm luck and have got some great deals in the past year. I got the Reactor for less R 1000 at CUM and the tent from Drifters for 3k (that's less 4k) when they put a small hole in it and repaired it but had to sell it as 2nd hand.

We nick named the Reactor as the "Flame Thrower because it boils water so fast! Even in gusty wind which slows down my old Firefly, the Reactor keeps boiling at serious speed. Most stoves boil between 12 to 15 litres of water on a small canister while the Reactor does 24 litres. :cheer: Love it!

Have you got a special arrangement with them or something? :P

I suspect its the power of visualisation. After years of suffering with **** heavy gear I love the good, the light and the pretty stuff! :laugh: full kit on this hike including a down jacket was 12kg..

Note compact size of my pack:

@ASL: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Yeah, I'm the same. I've swopped my 75L TNF Crestone (3kg) for a Deuter ACT 40+10 (1.5kg). I weigh almost everything. My pack including water and food is usually around 7kg without a tent for a weekend trip. My average fully loaded weight used to be around 18kg.

The 3 easiest places to drop grams is backpack, sleep system and shelter/tent

I can do 3 days at this weight. Additional food doesn't add much weight also unless you do luxuries..
