Wrapping up 2014, the incidents that we know of where:
- 1 case of intimidation at Mashai Pass/Rhino Peak
- 2 cases of theft around Tugela Falls
Some comments:
- Not a bad year for the Berg once again, in comparison to many other areas in the country
- Incidents were in known problem areas, and in line with the typical nature of the problems. We have not seen any new trends.
- Once again there were confusing and conflicting reports on the incidents going around. I appreciate all efforts made to gather the facts and to post them on this forum. I appeal to everyone to please properly report all security incidents to the relevant authorities, and to post all details on this forum so that we can present an accurate picture of what is going on in the Berg.

My wild guess is that the whistles were to get you to turn on your lamps so that they could locate your tent. Somehow neither one could see you, so you were definitely camped well hidden, even if unintentionally.
Yes, they were whistling to each other as well. I have experienced this, they were tracking me, on either side, luckily for me the mist moved in, and I took a hard turn and went uphill and backwards fast, and camped behind huge rocks.
I never use my lamps at camp. means eating and turning in before dark. And peeing in the dark. I always scout a tentsite that is hard to see.
