Appreciate the info. Riaang, you've commented about not taking the chance with your wife on a hike and that is my view to, and that applies aswell when taking other out. 

We'll watch what the weather does and if there is a chance that the river is high, we'll come down the route via neptune pool.

The best crossing is right next to the new trout farm intake weir, they have created a bit of a dam to slow the river down. But in a serious down pour that river can do some serious damage, I would not like to be caught on the wrong side of it. The closer you can get to the golf course bridge (down stream) the better in the worse case.
