Hi All
we are walking to the base of Giants pass next weekend using the Oridi Ridge route. Anyone got a GPS track in case the dragons breath desends upon us??
Where in the camp does this route actually start. Is it that track to the left between the hikers car park and the Office??
Any resent info on this route?
If we have a late start and have to hurry, which is the better (quicker) route to the base of the pass??
Cheers G

Myself and Smurfatefrog went up Giant's Pass last weekend. We accessed it via Giant's ridge, which is the most direct route. There is a good path all the way up this ridge. At the contour path you would turn right, and 2km later you would reach Giant's Pass.
I haven't tried the Oribi Ridge route before, so not quite sure how much extra distance this route entails or where it actually starts from...

I haven't done Oribi Ridge, but myself and Kliktrak did Giants Ridge a few weeks ago and it was really easy, good path, very scenic and well worth it.
Kliktrak tells me that Oribi Ridge is up and down the whole time and not particularly great. I have looked at it, looks like there is a good path. Don't think you'll need a GPS track. Just remember that it starts somewhere near the picnic site, not the EKZN offices like Giants Ridge.

This will help in terms of where it starts, not sure how accurate those distances are on there
Jon & I left the car park just before 10PM and had no issues on Giants Ridge in the dark, very good path.
Jon, those other lights we saw at like 2am must've been on Oribi Ridge, I had forgotten there was another ridge

Have done Oribi Ridge before as Ghaz said. My only recommendation for it, is to make a more adventurous route to tent at Giants Hut, and then return down Giants Ridge.
IMHO its a more difficult route to Giants Pass in that it is not as steady a gradient as the other ridges, and dips and climbs quite sharply in places. I would suggest that Giants Ridge is the faster route to Giants Pass.
The path starts opposite the day visitor car park, climbing straight up the ridge, it is not a nice way to start a hike early in the morning, but it does dust off the cobwebs faster, you may just want to warm up before the slog.

Thanks guys
Still not sure which is quicker, but my first time on Oribi ridge and it is now my preferred route. All the tough stuff in the first few kays and the rest is easy going. No need for a track even in the mist, but I have one now, so just ask if you need it.

I bought it at the Giants Castle office, on the counter where you pay for shop items. Think it was R10,Wizman wrote: Hi the map you are showing us ,Where can i get one from .Thanks
