Was there end of July I think and the road had been recently graded. It’s like any other dirt road and doable in any car easily. Might not be great after rain but definitely in the best shape after many years.
only issue we had was the harassment at the cattle grid by some local youths so just be aware of that.

@jonoE...your warning regards the local youths is correct. If driving slow, they run up to your vehicle doors and open them to steal whatever they can grab, so better to lock your doors. It happened to us!

I was there 3 weeks ago and the road has been graded after the flood damage. It's in good shape for 2 wheel drive.

So I've had a couple of incidents at that cattle grid going back over 10 years now. I think we need to start reporting it so that something is done before it becomes dangerous or escalate to hijacking. Not sure where is the best place to report it though?

The Injisuthi camp manager seems quite conscientious - I think he will be able to escalate to the right authorities. But I do think it is unlikely that he does not know about the incidents there.

There have been kids hanging out by that cattle grid asking for handouts for as long as i can remember, just drive on and don't stop moving.
The last time i was there the ruse was the cattle grid was "unsafe" so you should drive around though the gate on the side, which they would open if you paid a "toll". Grid looked fine to me so i just carried on driving. I don't believe they are are dangerous, but i guess you can never be too careful.
*ps i once had a stone throwing issue on that road, but that was much lower down in the village.

I was there in September. They ask you for money when you drive, you just continue driving. No issues with the gate.
I read a sign that says that there are issues. you must take pics of the beggars and inijsuthi will send to the local police.

Last time I was there they lifted the cattle grid so it was impossible to drive over. They then closed the gate on the side and would not open it unless they were given a handout. Tricky situation and not sure if getting out the car in that situation is the wisest move.
Seemed like an older teenager and some 10-12 year olds.

Next time take pics and report them. The police will look for their parents.

the easiest thing to do is probably to complain to KZN Wildlife as they blocking access...
