@Viking: this project has been shelved due to lack of support and most probably the sponsors have also lost interest. So at the end of the day this eyesore in the mountains amongst others rests on the shoulders of those who originally built them and were supposed to maintain them!

Hi all - We were up at the hut this last weekend, the plan was not to sleep there, but weather and the time of day etc etc, culminated in us turning back off the NHA and heading to the Hut for the night.
The hut is in a magnificent setting, however it is in bad shape, birds are nesting inside the hut so the floor is filthy, looks like some guys have been lighting open fires in the hut as well.
Still has a roof and the bunks are still there, so it is still a shelter from heavy rain etc, but I would probably not be aiming to stay there again, only of the weather was really forcing us too.

Has anyone been to Centenary hut recently? If yes, what is the current condition of the hut?
Still delapidated and dirty or has it been cleaned and fixed?
Any pictures would be helpful.

Repairs were done a few years ago - including roof and replacing broken window panes. However, it seems there was subsequently still an issue with the roof (unclear if this was repaired again) and I know the hut sees use from some of the (rather large) groups of guided hikes that launch from there to Judge pass, etc. - these groups seem to leave a lot of rubbish behind.

Was there end of April. Roof has been repaired, but still very dirty inside. There was a big tent pitched outside, but unoccupied - probably related to restoration work.
We camped outside before taking the NHA the next day.

Quick update on Centenary hut. Much improved
Roof is up, the place is mostly cleaned out, rainted, windows fixed. A bit of trash (from hikers) in a black bag to the right of the main entrance, but it is absolutely ivable now. 2 of our group could even sleep on the beds, they have some foam/rubber covering over the 2 bottom beds. The small room to the right of the main entrance door on the eastern side) also nicely cleaned up.
I took a small handheld broom and pan along (Checkers special, plastic), had minimal use for it on this trip but left it there so others can continiue keeping the hut in decent condition.

Who is behind the restoration work? Is it EKZNW?
