Guess where?

Well done Intrepid and nice one Sterkhorn!
Is that Mnt Aux Sources in the background? Where exactly are the falls?

Yes, that is Mnt Aux Sources in the background. Bilanjil Stream is in the valley parallel to the Tugela Valley, over the ridge behind the mountain hut.
In our early hiking days we always preferred camping there rather than among the crowds around the Tugela Falls. Besides the height and significance of the Tugela Falls, I regard Bilanjil Falls as having more character than Tugela Falls. We actually climbed down the side of the gully to one of the lower levels to obtain the first 2 photos.

Thanks for the background Sterkhorn. I think I'm about to uncover an error I've been living with for a couple of decades. Like finding out you've got a brother you didn't know about.
Where is Ribbon Falls in relation to Bilanjil? I suspect I have been thinking that Bilanjil are called Ribbon Falls......

Thats interesting. When you first mentioned Ribbon Falls, I wondered if you were mixing them up. Ribbon Falls is further along the Amphitheatre Wall, maybe just past half way. I did not want to mention your warmth at the time, as there are few other alternatives in the area.

Thanks for the clarification Sterkhorn. I'm staking no claim to Intrepid's victory, but I think I've been living with that error for a long time!

When I was 14 or 15 I did my first big hike with a classmate from Rockeries to RNNP. We had no idea how long it would take, except for the 2 days from the police post to Mponjwane cave. Thereafter we planned to hoof it to the amphitheatre - all in between was unknown. We did hoof it, arriving at the amphitheatre early on day two after leaving Mpjonj cave (staggering with heavy bags and food for 2 weeks!). We encountered some bloke with a day pack at these falls and wondered where we were. When he broke the news that we were at our destination, we ate several days of the food in one go and horsed around in these falls. I remember them like it was yesterday. We only had photocopies (photostats!) of Reg Pearce's maps and so didn't navigate too well. I've always thought these falls were Ribbon Falls since that day. Glad you posted the pic.

:cheer: 'Twas no victory on my side mnt_tiska, I'll let you take it. I must say this round had me sweating cause I just couldn't figure it out - I haven't explored those deeper parts to the Bilanjil stream, but the guessing, hints and a bit of knowledge that the Bilanjil has enough water volume could be deep enough to match the pictures, that's what did it.

This round is definitely yours Intrepid. It might have been mine if I'd got the name right!

I used to think I knew a lot about the Berg until I found this website. Its great to have knowledge corrected and sharpened. Stijn's very successful thread is quite humbling in that regard.

Anyone that wants a turn here go for it. I've still got to dig up a new pic.

I am 99.872516% sure that that is in the southern berg (you know what they say, 87.327645348% of statistics are made up on the spot, including this one :) )...

It looks so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.
