@Elandman

Yep. State of roads. What can we say?

But then think back to the days when the Berg Hotels were not the resort of BMW driving-Gucci wearing-Tissue Flingers, but rather the place to go with solid wheels over rutted roads and climb peaks, with hemp rope
Maybe ponder the fact that the (poor) state of the road may actually be preserving the (continued) state of the Drakensberg Wilderness.
1st gear. Persevere. Know that you won't see sweet wrappers every 300m.
Just a thought.

Replied by HFc on topic State of the road to Injisuthi
There are some strong views about the general tourist visiting the Drakensberg in the last couple of posts, to the point of being condescending.

I'd be wary of doing this. We should be careful not to portray the hiking community as being elitist, thus turning new people away in the process.

Live and let live, live and let learn.

I was there over the weekend, fine up to last 5km .. that last bit is now a bit rougher on a sedan than it was been in the past.

I see they are busy patching the road inside the reserve though, so hopefully they extend that to the bad bit outside the preserver ...

We were at Injisuthi this last weekend, the road to the camp is still bad, however something happened worth noting and warning about.

On our way out from the camp on Saturday, there is a stretch, after the KZN Wildlife entrance to that cattle gate, there is a lot of cattle and herdsman in that sections.

We were passing through some cattle that the herdsman had been moving out of our way, the road is also narrow so you tend to drive carefully and slowly. The herdsman naturally as they do asking for something, but we kept going very slowly through the cattle with them in front of us and next to us all while waving at the guys, when they opened the doors on either side of our car!

We held the door closed on the left and luckily the door on the right only half opened as they didn't pull hard enough to open it, I chose to put foot past the remaining cattle at that point and thee guys didn't follow and nothing taken or harm done on either side.

In hindsight locking the doors as we left the camps would have helped and naturally coming from JHB it should be habit, but we just did not expect that.

Not sure if this is a regular thing or not - but guys please take care on the road in and out of Injisuthi.

I will also post this under the berg alert thread - if i'm posting this in the wrong threads, please more it accordingly.
