Thanks Intrepid for your ongoing efforts!

I agree with most of the points above, but the main reason for me is the destruction of wilderness (which is something that can never be undone again). We are lucky in SA to still have large untouched areas of wilderness. It is important to keep it this way by limiting any man-made interventions. This certainly limits access to these wilderness areas to those who have the necessary skills and experience, which may seem elitist, but there are many other other spectacular natural areas that can be accessed by all. My main concern is not just this cable car and it's man-made footprint, but the precedent it may set to all future developers to just act in the name of tourism and profit.

I agree with all the reasons for objecting expressed by the various members and empathise with Mnt-Tiska:
"The lack of integrity on the part of the consultants who did the assessment and engineering reports sickens me."
This, and the involvement of probably corrupt politicians, is most ominous.

There is now a petition running on Avaaz, check it out here:
secure.avaaz.org/en/petition/Michael_Mabuyakhulu_MEC_Economic_Development_Tourism_KwaZuluNatal_Stop_the_proposed_Busingatha_cableway_in_the_Drakensbe/

Please have a look at it, and sign it. It is very quick and easy to sign, does not require a lot of time, and only minimal information. For those that don't know Avaaz, they are a very successful online campaigning website which has a lot of success stories - definitely check them out and some of the other petitions running.

Please spread the link! The link can easily be copied and pasted into emails, Facebook, Twitter, other forums etc. At the bottom of the petition page you will even see some buttons that can make this even easier for you.

Lets get all the signatures we can!

Congratulations and thanks are due to Jonathan Newman for his extremely well reasoned and professional response to the draft business plan. It takes a lot of time and thought to produce a document such as this and his commitment to produce it is highly commended.

Has it been submitted to the National department as well as the provincial department of Tourism and development? I have heard that the national department is dead against building things in the hope that after completion of the project that the numbers of users will miraculously appear.
