Nice article in the Times - well done. The article exposes the ludicrous numbers that the proposal is based on. Those are the things that matter the most at this stage.

I wonder if the community's 'ringing endorsement' will toll again? I've seen these things so many times. Organise a public meeting, stifle the opposition and claim an endorsement. No science in that - just propaganda.

A single mass meeting does not constitute "extensive consultation". Also their own feasibility study highlights the fact that in order to obtain a lease on the land from the Ingonyama Trust Board, the traditional authority has to formally give their consent. Fact is the AmaZizi royal family does not approve the cableway - no bones about it.

Comments on the issue of proper consultation have been submitted:

From the article:

Madlala said a breakfast was also held and the department would set up a website for views to be posted online.

Anyone know if this website actually exists. I tried Googling it, only got VE, ClimbZA and some newspaper articles.

I am surprised the article did not highlight the communities opposition to it, and the fact that the consultation process, while it may have had many attendees, many of the community would not have attended?

AVAAZ PETITION

Greetings Intrepid/Amagug’esizwe

I subscribe to Avaaz and usually get notification by Email of any new petitions. In this case I received no Email notification altho, my vote was acknowledged by Email as usual.

It seems possible that the very low level of support (397 as of today) may be as a result of failure to notify Avaaz subscribers by Email, possibly due to software or an error in submitting the petition.

In my experience even petitions of only local appeal tend to attract massive international support. I suggest you check your petition notification settings

Re my last post: Avaaz petition:

Experimenting with dummy submit petition:

It seems that it would have been best to share by link which I think sends to all Avaaz subscribers (there are >30million) rather than share by Email. Of course, both would be best.

I just red this in the upper uThukela biodiversity assessment report 2010 and can't help wonder why this isn't the main issue? Even though the communities appeal and the financial problems are just as glaring.
"The area has long been a gap between disjunct portions of the UDP WHS and in the registration of the latter its incorporation was listed
as a condition for World Heritage Status."
I started reading about this cableway with an open mind, I saw both sides, I don't anymore.

I had a look myself, and there is no way that I can see how to send it to all Avaaz subscribers. The share by link button merely copies the link so you can paste it elsewhere. Maybe this is something Avaaz do themselves according to their own evaluation of petitions on their site? I also get news of other petitions from them, but definitely now all petitions that can be found on their site.

736 signers this morning.

I signed the petition a few days ago but this morning I received an email from them informing me of this particular petition.
