Who is doing or has done the Grand Traverse

Hmmm.. they just crested the Ntonjelana Ridge so have a fair way to go to Mahout. Roland's Cave still in range for tonight, but another 17km to cover, with some big ridges in the way, so I'm calling it at closer to 10pm. B)

That post was ahead of its time

Not the first time I have misread that valley on a tracker - ironic seeing as it is one of my favourite bits of escarpment!

7:30PM update: They are by Tseke Pass, heading up Cleft Peak now. What a strong start - lets hope they keep it up!

8:30PM update: Looks like they have Cleft Peak.

Roland's Cave must fell like it's a very long way away at this time of night!

It looks like they are going back down towards Tseke Pass? No clue what they are up to - hope they are ok!

@Biomech: I have only hiked more than an hour after sunset a few times, but it is amazing how an hour feels like a day when you are tired and it is dark!

I'm guessing somebody left some vital piece of equipment\food behind and they had to backtrack.

They are heading up the Yodeler's Ridge now - so I'm guessing all is good. It will be interesting to hear what happened when they get back.

Day 2

They seem to be properly back on track. At 10:30 they are off the Didima Highway and on their way towards Ships Prow Pass - khulu no 3 is up soon!

I will keep updating this post throughout the day.

12 update: they are heading down Bothotlong right now. They are doing very well indeed!

13:15 update: They are in that long boring valley between Champagne and Mafadi. Well, its boring on the river line, very scenic on the high ridge line. Looks like they are making good progress, perhaps Giants Cave for tonight.

16:00 update: on top of Mafadi now. They look well on track to pull this off. I guess the same could have been said when I hit Bannerman Cave on day 2 - still a long way to go!

21:45 update: Well it looks like they are finishing late again. They aren't far past the junction of the Jarateng and Langies rivers. A long way to go still (unless they bivy again tonight). I wouldn't want to go through dog-ville in the dark!

Busy playing the "which cairn is highest" game on the Mafadi summit plateau, perhaps? :P

Will be interesting to see if they take the faster "dog valley" route or hit the escarpment ridges instead..

Edit: Dog valley it is!
