Home Made Gear?

How close was your windshield to the stove? Sounds like it may have been too close. You also need to have enough space at the top to vent exhaust gasses.
I use a leather punch, it works pretty well
Yea I was really need a hole punch to make things easier, although thrusting and twisting a scissor blade was also fun
I tried leaving ample air space but the windshield still killed the flame a bit. It needed a sliiight breeze to get it fired up, but this would naturally be present outdoors anyway. I'm still going to try bigger holes to see if this helps.

For standard tests I used 30ml meths (including priming fuel), measured with a syringe, and 500ml water.
The larger stove boils in about 4 minutes, with a total burn time of only 7 minutes or so. The smaller stove boils in about 9 minutes, but has a total boil time of around 16 minutes. (This is a longer burn that I would get with a cat can stove, with less fuel, and similar boil time, so much more efficient.) I'm not sure of total weight off-hand, (will try weigh tonight), but without fuel, its less than 200g, including the 2 pots. I'd be surprised if the stove, priming pan, windshield and potstand weighed more than 50-60g.

I found out why my windshield was killing the flames, it was just lacking some air holes, so I punched a ring of holes near the bottom, working MUCH better now. Got 500ml boil time to 6 min 20 and total burn time of about 9 min 30
Still have a lot more experimenting to do!

My windshields don't have holes (they probably should) but they fit quite loosely, so enough space for airflow.
What are you using for windshields? I haven't been able to find some aluminium sheeting anywhere.

For the windshield I'm just using tinfoil, probably about 5 layers thick. Weighs nothing and can be folded up nice and small.

6 min 20 sec boil is not bad, better than my times. What pot do you use?
My kit's dry weight (ie no pots, lid or fuel) is 68g.
