Hi Ruth it's around 2.5kg. You can go lighter leaving the footprint at home, but I use it as a groundsheet for caves too :)

I like the Sunny tents because the fabric used is of the more durable kind. The poles are also at 9.5 which makes it much stronger. Comes with added weight but I reckon its worth it. Thanks for the feedback Silver.

For those of you who might be interested, I recently made a video review of my Black Diamond Mirage tent which can be viewed here:

NOTE: I am not affiliated in any way with the brands (Black Diamond in this case) or companies (Mountain Mail Order in this case) that are featured in my reviews. The gear that I review has been purchased and used by me, and the reviews are my honest personal opinion.

Hi all.

I am looking for some suggestions for a family member who wants to get into hiking and obviously some future berg trips as well.

What tent do you guys suggest for a family of 3? Their child is only 2 now, but they would want to have the flexibility of sharing for future hikes as well.

What about the Peak Louis?

I don't know anything about the tent though.

Looks good. I wonder if there is anyone here that has tested it in the Berg?

Hi All

I see Cape Union is selling a tent from MSR, the MSR Elixir 3 Person Tent for R4999. I think it is a very good tent, but the price is quite high!

Someone should buy one and write us a good review.

I've used the 2-person MSR Elixir. Really nice tent but sadly overpriced for what you're getting.

Agreed, I think the Mountain Hardwear tents are better value or some of the Black Diamond tents..

Drifters and Trappers have the MHW and Mountainmailorder carry BD. I think Trappers have some older stock which is quite well priced and may be worth a look
