Thanks for the feedback.
Can't take the credit for the actual sewing as I only have a learners licence on the machine at the moment.

Biggest issue was trying to find the material. No one locally seems to know what you are asking for. So in the end I cut up a car cover (R250 @ game) and used that. Not the perfect material but for valences should work OK for now.

The idea was more of a wind valence to control wind movement in the cold and keep out wind driven rain / spindrift.

It is a continuous strip 200mm wide (cut 230mm to allow for hemming) and stiched it on the inside of the guy out points from door zip to door zip. This way it can be tucked underneath the tent floor and hopefully limit some of the flapping.
It is stitched through the lower hem of the fly with two rows of stitching.
No seam tape but will possibly seam seal at some point. It is quite low down so not really worried about leaks that low.

Easy enough job to undertake, only took about 4hrs in all.

Only have one other pic at the moment. Will take a few more when I have it out for a test run.

Cheers

W

I've had the exact same issue, impossible to find decent ripstop nylon (at least in Jo'burg). Interesting idea with the car cover, I'll have a look at it. In the past I wanted to make a 'door' for my poncho tarp tent (diamond pitch)

I don't think the car cover is "decent" ripstop nor do I have any idea what the water head on the water proofing is.
For what I was looking for it is ok but not sure I would use it for much else.

I don't think there is any one locally who is doing these sorts of tech fabrics so might have to import. Found this place in the USA that will sell by the meter

Seam tape would be the next issue :P

Great video, LouisvV!

It appears that I am not the only one who has cats that cannot resist going under the tent when it is being pitched!

So I thought I'd share my first experience with my Outdoor Elements sunny 1 man tent from takealot.

Setup took a while to grasp, but now I'm confident and quicker at it. Ground sheet first, then fly and lastly the inner mesh if required.

I found the tent to handle the wind blowing down from sandleni very well with little or no movement in the frame or outer fly.

The space and headroom is a marked improvement over my old campmaster dome 1 man. I could keep my pack inside above my head and have room to lay down stretched out. The head room is great too and I could sit up well clear of the roof.

For R1999 I rekon it's a good buy

How much does the tent weigh Silverthorne?
