Tents

I have one in my garage... Very nice tent and has slightly more space than your average 1-man tent. Under the new Outdoor Elements branding came loads of improvements, including stronger fabric, stronger pole design, and a full footprint included (which I reckon is a must). I have not used it in strong winds but reckon it will graft okay. The shape and design is very similar to the MSR Hubba 1, but it is heavier due to stronger fabric and poles plus footprint. Perfect for our rough and rocky terrain. Obviously also a few 1000 rands less than a Hubba. To me the biggest bonus is that the product owners are based in Stellenbosch so you can get local support if ever needed.

It's not often you get to hear what you want to hear hahaha.
Thanks kbresler, My birthday is around the corner and hinted to wifey
. I have an explorer Dome that with a small mod works great but when it comes to cooking in the rain or leaving your wet stuff and pack outside that vestibule looks perfect.
Then there's that free footprint...

I paid 1800 for mine, and went for it because it is about 500g lighter than the Sunny. Not a free standing tent though, so has to be pegged out. Quick to set up though. Will post pics when I come down from the 'berg in about two weeks time.
The Helix range set up inner first and the inner has less ventilation outlets than the more expensive Banshee range, which set up flysheet first and have more ventilation. Should keep you dry in tough weather though...

You can chat to the guys at Drifters about Rocvan. I noticed that they have some stock.
They seem to rate it and trust them more than other resellers...

It's important to note that Rocvan is now known as Outdoor Elements. And it comes with great added features and quality under the updated name. I was also told on Thursday that the prices will be going up early October due to our weakening Rand. This has already happened for other brands and the rest will have to follow suit in the next 2 months. So if you're in the market for a tent I would not wait too long.

Drifters is on the ground floor of the south side of Sandton City. They don't have a retail website but you can see pictures of the shop under t their retail tab.
They are the best store in SA in terms of products offered and give discount if you belong to Mcsa or certain other outdoor clubs.
