I'd love to be hiking in the Berg this winter, and wish I could have seen that dump of snow! Anyone got any photos?

I'm enjoying the warm summer in Canada currently though and won't be seeing the Berg till September probably. Funny thing is I was in the Strathcona mountains 2 days ago and up to my knees in snow!

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

I'm heading up into Lesotho next weekend...not hiking though:blush:

Will post some pics if there's any worthwhile snow.

Was up at Mahlasela Pass (3200m)(Afri-Ski)last week - had about 3cm on Sunday Night and further snow throughout Monday, and a further 3cm on Wednesday night - the rest of the Malutis also had a decent covering from about 2700m upwards, however quite amazing that most of Monday's snow had melted by the end of Tuesday. Have to say we still very severely froze our backsides off ! Ironically the ski resort is currently unable to offer skiing at this time due to the natural snow-fall being insufficient and temperatures otherwise not cold enough to manufacture snow - most other years their season has already commenced by now - that's global warming for you !

This is a satellite image of the Berg on the morning of June the 9th. Clearly a good dump on the KZN Berg and the Maloti range. Also some on the Thaba Putsoa range in south-western Lesotho and Thaba Ntso/Ben McDhui in the south.

Van Reenens Pass and the N3 Highway also got a dusting from this snowfall (reportedly at least 3cm).

See this media article for more info and some pics in this gallery .

Not much snow - only around Black Mountain & higher peaks further into Lesotho.

Can't make pic small enough to post. Sorry.
