ah damn, I should've mentioned VE and introduced myself.Riaang wrote: Hi Smurfatefrog, glad you guys enjoyed Ushanthi cave, it was my group in Easter cave. I was very glad that the wind had died down during the night as we were a bit concerned about your group.
If the wind hadn't died down we would've gone to Twins. A couple in the group were over the day by then, so when I mentioned there was an overhang 300m away they were sold.
You guys left super early on Sunday! We saw your headlights as we were having coffee, we flashed our lights at you but you probably didn't see as your backs were facing us.

The next morning the wind was howling, it became almost impossible to stand near the edge of the escarpment. I had a quick look down Nguza Pass as I knew Ruth & co were planning to head up, but I couldn't stand there for more than 30 seconds!
Hi Smurfatefrog! We missed you guys completely (we only got to the cultural centre at lunchtime on Friday unfortunately). We actually changed our route in the end and went up Rockeries and down Mnweni. I am super glad we weren't on those grassy slopes on Nguza pass with the hectic wind! Going to have head back there and do Nguza another time

Might be time for some VE buffs...I know a couple of times where MCSA peeps have introduced themselves whilst I've been wearing my MCSA buff.

Now that's a good idea - It will make it less awkward when you walk up to someone and say " V E....?? ".
That wind on Saturday was bonkers! We felt like we were sky diving not hiking!

Buff is a good idea, but maybe an embroidered patch/badge that could go onto a hat or whatever as well.. I for one, and I'm sure some others, only use a buff when it's pretty cold..

I almost always wear a buff while hiking - but I do use my buff as a cap. The dead give-aways that I am very tired are:
1) I stop taking photos
2) I take off my buff; or
3) I stop talking
The 3rd usually only happens when I am not feeling well...

I fully support the idea of a VE buff. Wear it every day in the berg, as well as arm protectors, mainly to keep from getting sunburn.

Roger is too old school to get cold, or?!

hah, I do use them when it's chilly, a lot of my hiking buddies use the all the time, for warmth, or as sweat band, or for sun, I overheat very quickly, and cant wear a buff around my head or neck unless it's cold..
So other VE okes wouldn't recognise me on a warm day
