Well done guys, great day out

The interesting thing is that you probably have the FKT. In Sep 2014, I got over Cleft Peak, and was on my way down Organ Pipes Pass within 13 hours after setting out. But I have no record at all of my final time down to the hotel, but it must be about the same time you guys got. Which would give you the FKT simply because you know your time :-)

Unless someone else has done this faster?

Haha! Thanks, Andrew...but my mediocre maths skills say your route down Organ Pipes must have been at least 80km depending on where you ended.

Also, we got picked up at the start of the dirt road to the hatchery, which I suppose disqualifies us.

What are these FKT things anyway?

I believe FKT stands for Flippen Kief Time, which is completely in sync with the saying that the best runner is the one having most fun

A mate of mine, Fred, had done Corner Pass recently and was quite keen to check out the Around the Corner variation and with my recently attained funemployed status, I was only too happy to join him! Wednesday evening saw us at the Injisuthi Campsite and we were off at 5am the next morning for a rather big day with light packs. We decided to loop it with Judge Pass (hence we both got to do 2 new passes) and also check out the old chains & ladders ascent to the Field Ranger's Outpost above Injisuthi as an alternative approach to Centenary Hut on the way in.

It was set to be a hot day, which was fine while we were at altitude above contour path level, but unfortunately the dry heat and haze made for poor photography conditions. We used the NHA approach to Corner Pass and I quite enjoyed the Around the Corner variation as a different way to summit. Judge Pass is right next door so before we knew it we were back on the contour path, slogging it out to Centenary Hut and down Heartbreak Hill for the most refreshing swim in that little gorge at the bottom. Then it was a short way down the valley (oh how I love that Injisuthi Valley when it's green!) back to the beers at the campsite!

All in all, a fantastic way to spend a random Thursday ;)

Hey Stijn - nice pics thanks

Quick question, we are looking to do a route in the Injisuthi area soon, how is the bush / over growth between the bottom of heart break hill to where you would usually take the turn to lower injisuthi cave, if heading back to the EKZN camp, ie that +-2k stretch past Fergy's cave?

Reason for asking was it was terribly overgrown in Feb this year, and if it is not clear then it makes moving quickly fairly difficult.

Thanks Warren :) The grass is about head-high in that section, but the path underfoot is very clear. So would be easy to follow at a hiking pace but would be pretty unpleasant to try and run.. enjoy!

Hi Stijn, thanks too.

What is funemployed? Hope its a good and not a bad thing.

How did you guys find navigating the contour path from Judge Pass back to Centenary Hut?
