Bergie it is so far, seems pretty positive but I'll let you know if it changes.

I'm no expert but I'd say that is a berg adder.

Spotted two Berg Adders in the Golden Gate region. Only took a picture of the first one. Both where roughly the same size (about 30cm). Altitude around 2500m ASL.

On Saturday 24th of December my wife and I were on the path between White Horse Cave and Whyte's Cave. I heard a hiss a few feet ahead of me and stopped.
I mentioned to the wife that I think there's a Berg adder ahead but for the life of me I could not spot this thing!

Now the wise thing to do would be to take a wide berth around the spot and continue with our journey. But not being 100% sure that it had been a hiss I decided to
"run the gauntlet" with my tripod acting as some kind of shield and I thought a jump should see me through. As I ran and jumped, it went for me and passed right underneath me!
Now that we could see him, we enjoyed the sighting and continued on our way.

But as anyone who has seen a Berg adder will attest, they have a temper!

Berg Adder
28 December 10:50am
S28 58.618 E29 11.823
Elevation 1927m
Weather light drizzle and mist (not the sort of weather I would expect find snakes out in- mad dogs and Englishmen maybe....)
Lenth estimated at 15-20cm

It moved off the path faster than I could ge my camera (phone) out but got a picture of sorts.

Myself and Hobbit saw a young Bergadder near the confluence of the Jarateng and Sanqebethu Rivers around 2700m in Lesotho on 24 December. Quite unusual to see a snake on top, unfortunately it disappeared long before I could get my camera out.

We spotted a young berg adder on the bell traverse between the two horns on the norther slopes, right on the path, I stepped right over it before I realised what it was. It wouldn't move off the path, we had to make our way around it.

Almost trod on a juvi Rinkals coming back from Hidden Valley on Saturday. Could not get the camera out for a shot before he wriggled off the path into the grass. About 30-40 cm long.
