Road to Sentinel Car Park

Last used the road in Feb of this year. It is unfortunately in the worst condition I've ever seen it (since 2013). We've also had plenty rain since then so it could have worsened more. Hoping that someone else might have a more recent update?  If you feel strongly about driving it yourself, I would recommend 4x4 with high ground clearance as a minimum (as stated previously on forum) . We used a Toyota Fortuner in 4x4  mode the last time without much hassle.  Have done it in my Subaru Forester 4WD the previous times but I'm not sure I would make it with the road as-is.

Witsieshoek shuttle service has shown to be reliable in the past too. In most cases there is also cellphone signal at the carpark so shouldn't be too much of a delay with pick-up at the end. Can also limit your chance of delay during drop-off by phoning and arranging ahead.

We drove up to Sentinel Car Park in a 4×4 Ford Ranger last weekend. The road is a total disgrace. I can not understand the reasoning behind paving the trail towards the chain ladders and leave the road in total neglect. I would not attempt to drive up to Sentinel in anything less than a proper high clearance 4×4 vehicle with low range option.

Second that. High clearance SUV as a minimum. 4x4 is recommended. I have done a fair bit of extreme driving in rental cars but this road is way beyond even the best skilled rental car abuse.

If all else fails, you can simply walk from Witsieshoek mountain resort past the car park to the falls. Fairly easy walking as it is on a road and not steep as normal cars also travel along this road. Its about a 7km distance between these 2 points.

Hi Folks. Any update on the road to the Mountain Gate from Witsieshoek MR? Hoping to visit area in December from EC. Will be in Fortuner 2x4 w. Diff. Lock. I'm an experienced offroad driver. Cheers.
