I was there last weekend and would not recomend a low spoilered car. If you are prepared to crawl you may be OK. But give the hotel a call, I don't think they have their own transport, but I did see the new gaffer making a plan for some residents, his name is Deon.
Come on, give the missus your car for the weekend.

My wife has to take my other daughter to a school camp in the magalies, also dirt roads, and needs her car. I spoke to some guy at Witsieshoek and he assured me the road (to Witsieshoek) is ok and I should be ok driving up to the car-park if I take it easy. I don't have a choice...hey, thats what adventures are made of right? ...I mean if we have to turn around, there will forever be a story to tell...

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

2-3 spots will be a challenge and that will have a go at your spoiler. Have your daughter get out the car at these places (which makes it a little lighter) and guide you through. Let us know how it goes!
Great title by the way, enjoyed it.

Good news, I used google "street view" to show my wife that her trip is far less risky than mine ...and painted the picture of my 10 year old trying to guide me up a narrow pass
I'm now on my way tomorrow in the Caddy and can leave the Ferrari for my precious lady!
Weather looking good. Will report back next week.

Had a great trip, I used the VW Caddy and it was a breeze. The road to Witsieshoek is tar/paved the whole way and then up to the car park a bit rough. I did see a guy up there in his Merc with low spoiler...either he took forever or he's making a turn at Danmars this week. I took some pics of the Hut at the car park which I'll post, I seem to remember someone asking about that recently. We made it up and had lunch at the falls...its is still very dry up there and it was was crazy windy so we didn't spend to much time "on the edge". All in all a great trip. It is very possible to sleep at Witsieshoek, make it up and down and be back in time for Lunch. We left at 8 and were back by 13:30...thats with my 10 year old daughter (I carried the pack), and a quick rest in the Sentinel cave.
Caitlyn did great on the chain ladders and so the best part was bumping into some men hikers at the top who told us the one guy was on the chain ladders for 30 minutes crying. Thats the fear of heights for you!
I'll post some pics shortly.

when you say spoiler i asssume you mean side skirts/ skirting, cause the spoiler is usually on the boot sort of area.

Hi all.
The enquiry refers to the dirt road starting near Witsieshoek towards Sentinel car park.
Does anyone know if this road was graded lately. Over the years we have seen this road in varying conditions from bad (i.e. recently graded) to atrocious. If only 'bad' I'll be driving up there this weekend, the car can handle such, but if terrible we would rather avoid it (would probably still go to Witsieshoek, their Sunday lunches and steaming coffee pot is quite nice, and we've been lucky in spotting lammergeiers there everytime due to the boneyard).
Anyone been up there lately that can say what the road is currently like?
Thanks

Hi RR
We did that road at the beginning of May after finishing our GT and I would rate the condition as not too bad, certainly not atrocious, but with a few localised eroded places tending to require very slow driving. There wasn't an indication that it had been recently graded.
Deon, from the Witsieshoek Resort, was telling us of their plans to complete paving of the entire road from the resort up to the car park in the near future.
