Looks like they are about to hit the river below Thamathu Ridge. Looks like they will hit about 63h40. Very impressive stuff!

Andrew Porter is going to have another crack at the Drakensberg Grand Traverse. Solo, as is his norm.

He will set out at 3am Sunday morning and hopes to finish on Monday night.

In conflict with every speed traverse thus far, he is running from south to north. It should give an easier finish if there is such a thing and it provides a way to pass by the dogs during the day instead of at midnight.

If anyone wants to watch a snail move across the map, have a look at
my.yb.tl/grandtraverseandrew
which will show up his location every 10 minutes.

There are about half a dozen route choice variations to the route followed by Griesel and Sandes last year. Some are obvious and others are really subtle, and are only possible due to hours of training in the right hills. Accolades and fame to the person who identifies the most variations.

Take nothing but litter, leave nothing but a cleaner Drakensberg.

This one will be epic! Can't wait to see a time.

I forget what the current record is. 43 odd if I recall correctly? So 3AM on Sunday to 10PM on Monday night would be roughly the record. Big ask!

All the best Andrew, we know you can do it!

So Andrew tagged Thabana around 12:15

His start time was 2:50AM this morning, so 9h25 in, he is making really good progress. He hopes to bag Giants Castle around 7PM today, so it would appear that he is ahead of schedule right now.

He started with 3.7kg of gear in his pack, if you add his water bottle and GPS - his total starting weight was 4.5kg. Here is what he is carrying:

Just before he started this morning:

And about 10 metres into the trip:
