Maps & apps for GPS

Sorry to hear about your GPS's final waypoint.
Thanks R&H, GPS, and phone now too, seems it didn't like its quick dunking...
Phone is a necessity these days though, so I'll make a plan in the next couple days..

The major problem of course is cell phone battery life, but lets be honest, for day hikes, this is not a problem. And for a weekend hike, a battery pack will get you through.
About the only issue I have with it is that the screen does not show the scale, so it is not easy to see if you have 5, 10 or 20km still to go for the day.
Have a look at this link, you can import a planned track into Wikiloc. This is useful for transfering your data from Basecamp into Wikiloc before the trip:

I have wikiloc on my phone, and as Andrew says, it does not have a scale on the map, which obviously makes it difficult to judge distances.
However, SingleSpeed's phone does have a scale on the map, but I can't find any setting to get it to display. The only thing that I could think of is that the apps for Android (mine) and Apple are slightly different. Does that seem plausible?
I am hoping someone who is not a techtard like me will figure out a way to get the scale to show.

As you know I have used Wikiloc prior to me getting my Etrex 30x. If you are following a track I have seen it gives distance to start of track (crow flies) and when on the track gives km to end (crow flies).
As you say there maybe small differences, but what could also be is the version of phone possibly. Are you just looking at how may km's are left (crow flies) for the track you are following?

If you look in the bottom right hand corner of this screenshot, there is a distance scale.
This is how SingleSpeed's screen looks.
This is what mine looks like, with a + and - for zooming in and out.
I would like to have the scale on my screen.

OK, so it is an Android vs Apple thing?
